Mizoram Assembly Elections have been scheduled to happen on 28th November 2018. The state has a total of 40 constituencies of which 34 are won by Congress and the rest are shared by MNF (Mizo National Front) and MPC (Mizoram People's Conference).
Mizoram state assembly's tenure ends on 15th December 2018 and EC had recently announced the dates for the next elections. The date for nominations is from 2nd - 9th November 2018. The date of polling would be 28th November and counting will take place on 11th December 2018.
The state is now being led by Lal Thanhwala, a 79-year-old Congress leader. In the opposition, there are parties like ZEM (Zoram Exodus Movement), ZN (Zoram Nationalist Party), and PRISM (People's Representation for Identity and Status of Mizoram) along with the above mentioned two parties. Although the parties are a recent formation, MNF is the only player in the state that had been in power from 1998-2008. The leader of MNF Zoramthanga had spoken to the media and said that this time it will be a straightforward battle between Congress and MNF.
Mizoram has the highest percentage of the tribal population of which 87% are Christians and rest are registered as Buddhists. BJP is practically non-existent in the state but a recent merger between Maraland Democratic Front and BJP had happened and this might lead to new alliances in the upcoming Mizoram Elections 2018.
